Current City ordinance prohibits parking on the street when it is snowing or there is snow on the street; from November 1st – April 1st. Residents can also help by removing vehicles, trailers, garbage cans, etc. from the street during this time as well.

City Snow Removal Procedures

In anticipation of snow storms, crews will prepare for snow removal:

• Snow removal will begin when 2″ of snow has accumulated on roadways.
• Salt distribution will begin when the temperature drops and there has been enough moisture for icy roadways.
• Snow removal efforts will be ongoing during snowstorms and will continue until all streets in the City are cleared.

Plow Routes

City streets will normally be plowed to provide better access to the higher traveled streets first. Special attention is given to those higher traveled (collector) streets with hills and difficult intersections. Next, secondary streets are cleared and last; subdivisions streets are plowed with special smaller trucks. Cul-de-sacs and dead-end streets are plowed at this time.

Icy Conditions

At various times during a storm, salt is needed due to dangerous traffic conditions and/or dramatic temperature changes.

Salt distribution will be determined based on the following criteria and priority:

• Main collector streets
• Streets with Hills
• Difficult intersections – Stop lights and Stop signs
• Other areas including:
  • subdivisions and cul-de-sacs
  • Other special needs areas

Trails and Park system

City crews will clear snow from paved sections of the City’s trail system as time and resources allow. Some unpaved areas may be left unplowed for various forms of winter recreation.

Sidewalks

Herriman City property owners are responsible for keeping all sidewalks along their property clear and free of snow and ice. City crews are responsible for clearing sidewalks leading to and at public facilities such as the Municipal Buildings, parks and where the City maintains the parkstrip area.
