Apply for a Waterwise Yard Makeover

Herriman City is partnering with Slow the Flow, Salt Lake County, Utah Water Ways, and other organizations to bring a unique opportunity to local residents: a professionally designed and installed yard makeover that showcases how to create a beautiful, water-efficient landscape.

What Is the Project?

This project is part of a broader statewide effort to help Utahns conserve water while maintaining attractive and functional outdoor spaces. Several yards will be selected across participating cities—including Herriman—to serve as real-world examples of how traditional landscapes can be transformed into climate-friendly, waterwise designs. These demonstration sites will help educate and inspire others in the community.

What Kind of Yards Are Eligible?

The project team is looking for:

  • A typical front yard with living lawn (grass), or
  • A backyard at a new construction home that is ready for landscaping

The selected properties will be used to demonstrate practical, appealing designs that align with Herriman City’s landscape ordinance and Utah’s climate conditions.

What Do Selected Homeowners Receive?

Homeowners whose yards are chosen will receive:

  • A custom-designed landscape plan
  • Full professional installation by a licensed contractor—at no cost to you
  • Documentation through professional filming and photography
  • Exposure as part of a statewide water conservation campaign

What’s Expected from Participants?

Homeowners must be willing to:

  • Host occasional tours or learning events
  • Allow photos and videos of their yard to be used for educational and promotional purposes
  • Share basic water use data with project partners for up to five years
